What is sand or media blasting?
Sandblasting is traditionally a means of blasting sand or silica at a substrate (metal, glass, wood etc.) using compressed air. It is also a generic term for media blasting which is almost the same; it only uses an alternative to sand such as garnet, soda, plastic, corn cob, walnut, and much more. This process is used to remove surface containments i.e. paint, rust, mill scale, or other stuck-on containments and prepares the surface for a new coating.
Does media blasting warp my delicate or rare parts?
Not if it is done by in an experienced, knowledgeable facility. Certain types of media, such as steel or other metal blasting media, creates a lot of heat when projected at a part which unevenly heats the part causing warping. The correct media, pressure, nozzle size, and distance to the part can ensure that the part does not get warm enough to cause warping.
